Nothing more personal than our response to color. Color is the new language of passion, and nothing captures it better than distinctively styled jewelry.

Leave her speechless with our brilliant colorless and fancy colored diamond or bold brilliant gemstone jewelry styles.

Celebrating a Special Occasion with Jewelry!

How to Buy Jewelry? (Part I)

The concept of jewelry implies fashion, ornamentation, and adornments. But jewelry is much more than just that. It reflects your personality and shows what you value in life. It defines your style through colorful stones and gems jewelry.

Colored precious gemstone jewelry is the latest fashion. Colored gemstones are worn in rings, earrings, necklaces, pendants, and bracelets by every one. If you like to own an exceptionally beautiful and exclusive piece of jewelry, you should only consider gemstone jewelry. A piece of colored gemstone jewelry will distinguish you as a class apart from the crowed that wears gems like diamonds. The best way to go around shopping for a special kind of jewelry is to go to the Internet, look at the exquisite designs of colored gemstones or diamonds on white or yellow gold jewelry and select the one that matches your style.

· You are looking at gems and are shown, or viewed one on Internet, an evening Emerald, at a price much lower than what you would expect to pay for an Emerald of the same size. Would you buy the emerald and would you know what you are buying?

· You are admiring a piece of gold jewelry and are told it is 14 Karat gold. Do you know what marking to look for to make sure it is solid 14 Karat gold and not rolled gold, gold electroplate, or gold wash? Do you, in fact, know what 14 Karat and other terms Mean?

· You notice that brooches (or Pins) are the latest fashion in jewelry and are being shown in all fine jewelry stores as well as online jewelry stores. Do you know which you would buy and which might be the better buy, regardless of what you can afford?

· You are cleaning an opal ring, a pair of diamond earrings, and a string of pearls. Do you know the best way to clean them and would clean them together or separately? Also, how would you store them after cleaning?

· You want to buy a diamond ring. Would you look for a fine jewelry store or a fine online jewelry store where the each jewelry piece are clearly marked to show price and quality, a store offering a sale o diamonds, a store where you might be able to bargain for a lower price, or even a store offering of a packet of diamonds at a wholesale price? For that matter, do you know what the four Cs of diamonds are?

These are only a few questions about jewelry that are answered at The Jewelry Hut.

· An evening Emerald, for example, is not an Emerald but any green stone of Emerald color.

· All Karat gold jewelry in the United States and some other countries has to be marked to show its quality, according to law. The term “Karat” refers to the amount of gold used in proportion to another metal or metals.

· Another term for costume jewelry is fashion jewelry, and it can be the better buy for high fashion designs that you may tire of or may go out of fashion in a year or two.

· Certain gems and types of jewelry require special care in cleaning and should not be stored together or in the same way, since may become scratched or lose their luster or color.

· In buying fine jewelry, there are few, if any, bargains: You get what you pay for. Clarity, color, cut, and carat size are the four Cs of diamonds, determining the quality and cost of any diamond.

How to buy jewelry is only the beginning of what you need to know about jewelry.

When you buy a car, you buy the one you like and can afford. The purchase is emotional as much as it is practical, since cars in some way are extensions of ourselves. In addition, you know what you are buying, especially if you buying a well known brand luxury car. There may be features, in other cars that resemble or imitate the best of the best, but the genuine article is usually unmistakable. You know what to look for, what to expect, about what you are going to pay, and even where to go buy the car.

Fine furs have more of a mystique than the average car and they may seem more risky to buy. Yet, with time and patience, you can learn to differentiate among furs and to distinguish fine furs from inferior furs. Granted, you will never have the expertise of the experienced furrier, but you will be able to learn the difference between mink of an inferior quality. In short, you can easily learn what to look for, what to expect, about what you are going to pay, and where is the best place to buy the fur.

Both an expensive fur and a fine car are far more than purchases to keep you warm and provide transportation. They are also luxuries and status symbols. At the same time, the primary reason for the purchase is practical, you buy the car to drive and the fur to wear. You do not consider either an investment that appreciates in value. The criteria are that you like what you buy, that you have a use for it, that you can afford it, although you want to get the most for your money.

Jewelry should be bought the same way, regardless of whether it is fine jewelry of Karat gold, platinum, or silver, has precious gems or not, or whether it is costume jewelry. Even fine jewelry, which is a luxury item and can be as much as a status symbol as a sable coat or a Rolls-Royce although far more permanent and enduring should be bought because you like it, can use it, and can afford it. Jewelry after all, is a form of adornment and decoration.

One criterion you do not want to use for jewelry, any more than you would use it for buying a car or a fur, is whether the jewelry is a good investment or not. Some Jewelers, who are reputable and reliable in other respects, offer jewelry as “an investment.” Fine jewelers. In general, however, prefer to point out that jewelry is not really an investment except in beauty. Jewelry, in fact, is a purchase, just like a fur coat or a car. You should appreciate it, of course, although appreciation in that sense is not the same as the appreciation of increase in value of an investment.

What you should buy in fine jewelry, particularly platinum and karat gold, depends on you, your life style, and your preferences. You may be a woman who does not feel dressed without earrings, in which case you may want gold or diamond earrings that you can wear often with enjoyment. Or you may be a man or woman whose taste runs toward rings. A necklace, pendant or a bracelet could also be indispensable.

In any case, shop around. Look at styles and prices before you buy. Get an idea of what jewelry costs and how that compares to what you have to spend. Once you see an item you like, check its price against the prices of similar items in other jewelry stores or online stores. The major purpose is to give you an idea of value and to help you be satisfied, in all respects, after you have made the purchase.

Look in jewelry stores and the boutiques and the better online jewelry stores that often carry fine jewelry. But do not look for or expect or wait for sales. The finest jewelry stores rarely discount fine jewelry. If a style does not sell, it is more profitable for them to melt down the metal and reset the gems than it is for them to sell at a big discount. In this respect, fine jewelry is like no other luxury purchases, since the components can be reused.

Stores other the finest jewelry stores (or online) may offer jewelry at a discount. It may be a style that has not sold well, or the stores may be willing to make less profit or their overhead may be less. These are legitimate reasons to discount the price of a fine jewelry. If the discount is much over 25%, however, you should ask, “80% or 50% off of what price?” Despite laws prohibiting misleading advertising and the stand of reputable jewelers’ associations against it, there are still fraudulent advertising and selling practices going on.

For this reason, you want to read the part two of this article, about “How to buy fine Jewelry?” To understand what are the kinds of jewelry.

Everything You’ve Always Wanted to Know About Bridal Jewelry

Posted by on Monday, November 1, 2010. Leave a Comment

Tis the season…wedding season, that is. Brides the world over are gearing up for the most important day in their lives, and, naturally, want to ensure that everything goes according to plan. One of the most overlooked parts of wedding day planning is bridal jewelry. To that end, here are some tips to help you choose the perfect pieces, from coordinating with your dress to choosing something for your bridesmaids.

Does my wedding jewelry need to coordinate with my dress?

Yes. Just as you’d choose a veil or tiara to complement your hairstyle, bracelets, earrings and necklaces should be chosen to complement your dress. A single strand pearl bracelet or multiple-strand pearl bracelet looks best when paired with short sleeves or sleeveless dresses so they don’t compete for attention with the dress. A dress with a high neckline looks best with a collar, choker or princess length necklace. A low neckline will accommodate many choices from a choker to a very long strand, called a “rope.” Try several lengths to see how they complement your dress, and keep in mind that if you have too much skin between the necklace and the neckline you might be better off with a longer strand. If you’re tempted to choose a very long strand, be aware that it might get in the way during the reception–you don’t want to smear your pearls with icing when you lean over to cut your cake! A pearl necklace should be shorter or longer than the neckline of your dress; pearls that touch the neckline will compete with the dress. When choosing pearl jewelry, consider, too, the complexity of the dress. A simple, elegant dress can look terrific with a classic single strand or a substantial, eye-catching piece. An intricately-beaded dress will generally look better when the jewelry stays simple and doesn’t compete. As far as color goes, classic creamy white pearls complement most skin tones, although some brides’ skin tones are best flattered with pearls with rosy overtones. Whether you want classic pearls or something a bit funkier, try several different looks with your dress. If you take your time and find a look that works for you, you’ll be enjoying your pearls long after the honeymoon is over.

Is there such a thing as too much wedding day bling?

Yes! You want your bridal jewelry to enhance your look, not overpower it. The most important consideration is that people notice you on your big day more than your jewelry or dress. Everything in your wedding ensemble should work harmoniously. That said, you can choose one standout piece of jewelry, just make sure it’s not so outrageous that it’s distracting. And keep the rest of your look simple. For example, if you choose chandelier earrings, skip the necklace. If you choose a dramatic necklace, leave your wrists bare. If you want to wear a necklace, bracelet and earrings, choose something less flashy and make sure they work together–buying a pearl jewelry set ensures that you’re getting bridal jewelry that works well together. Remember, bridal jewelry should accent you, not overpower you.

What jewelry is appropriate for a beach wedding?

For beach weddings, we like pearl jewelry, shell jewelry and mother of pearl jewelry. With their nautical connotations, these styles are highly appropriate. Just choose something breezy, not formal, such as a tin cup necklace rather than a pearl strand, or a mother of pearl or shell bracelet rather than a four-strand pearl cuff. As long as you keep jewelry toned down to reflect the informal atmosphere, you’ll look wonderful.

What jewelry should I wear for my black tie wedding?

Here’s where you can go all out. Tiaras, four strand pearl bracelets, four strand pearl necklaces, chandelier earrings…they’re all appropriate at the black tie wedding. Choose something that works with your dress, and keep it formal, formal, formal. Think classic pearl jewelry or diamonds.

Is faux jewelry a faux pas?

Not at all! Whatever fits into your budget and makes you feel beautiful is always appropriate. If you love the look of diamonds but can only afford CZs, no one needs to know but you. And with freshwater cultured pearls being very affordable today, almost any bride can fit these traditional gems into her budget. If your wedding dollars just can’t stretch to include real jewelry, dig into your mom’s or grandmother’s jewelry box and make your wedding jewelry your “something borrowed.”

I’m going for a vintage look. How do I choose vintage-looking jewelry?

With all the styles out there, it’s easy. Decide on what look you like and do an Internet search. You don’t have to splurge on real vintage jewelry when vintage-looking jewelry is available in abundance.

I have wedding jewelry from both sides of the family. How do I choose what to wear?

If the pieces are in the same family–say pearl earrings and a necklace, they’ll typically look great together. But if your mom and his mom each want you to wear her pearl necklace, consider twisting the strands, or even wrapping one around your wrist to make a bracelet. Another alternative is to wear one strand during the ceremony and one at the reception, or wear one during the rehearsal dinner. Remember, this is your big day, not your mother’s or his grandmother’s. Express your appreciation and gratitude, but wear what makes you feel good.

Help! I don’t have pierced ears. Are there earring options for me?

You’re in luck! While clip-on earrings can be hard to find, we have many styles of classic pearl clip on earrings.

What does pearl bridal jewelry say about the modern bride vs. other jewels?

There is no doubt that diamonds are popular and gorgeous, but pearls have symbolized romance and sophistication for centuries. Nothing says understated elegance quite like a classic strand of pearls–the gems just have a pure allure that complements any wedding gown beautifully, and creates a softer, more classic look than diamonds or other gemstones. Modern brides who don’t want to wear traditional pearls can still capture the gems’ elegance by choosing a unique piece or by choosing colored or irregularly-shaped pearls.

I want to wear pearls. Are they affordable?

Yes! Fortunately for pearl lovers, there’s no better time to buy pearl bridal jewelry. Compared with many other gems, pearls are very affordable. (At Moon River Pearls, an AAA quality 18″ necklace made with 6.5 mm pearls is $135.) Simple pearl studs, a single-strand pearl bracelet and a single-strand pearl necklace made with 6.5 mm cultured pearls are all affordable options; many stores and websites offer pearl sets for a discount.

Whatever your budget, keep in mind that, unlike your wedding shoes or tiara, you can wear pearls for years to come, and even pass them on to future generations, so spending a little extra for a quality piece is worth it. Of course, another option is to ask your mother or grandmother to loan you her pearls, and wear them as your “something borrowed.”

BRIDESMAIDS

Should my bridesmaids’ jewelry match?

Absolutely not! In fact, it’s fun to choose different jewelry for each woman based on her style and personality. That said, if you want each piece to match, that’s fine too. If you do decide to choose something different for each woman, for the best look, choose pieces in the same jewel family, like, say, all pearl jewelry or all peridot jewelry. For example, you might give your maid of honor a beautiful 18-inch pearl strand, and your bridesmaids matching tin cup pearl necklaces or pearl drop earrings. Or give each bridesmaid a different pearl pendant and matching pearl studs. Just keep in mind the neckline of the dress–you don’t want a necklace to hit right at the neckline–and whether her hair will be up or down (long hair will hide dainty studs). Have fun with it…there are lots of styles to choose from.

Can I give jewelry as a gift to my bridesmaids?

Not only can you, it’s pretty much a tradition! Chances are, your maids are shelling out big bucks for their dresses, shoes, and hair, and perhaps even accommodations and travel. By giving them jewelry to wear during the wedding ceremony and reception, you’ll eliminate one more detail they have to worry about. Plus, what girl doesn’t love to receive jewelry? Tip: Save big with pearl jewelry sets.

When is an appropriate time to give my bridesmaids their gifts?

Ideally, before they go out and buy jewelry on their own! Traditionally, brides give gifts at their bachelorette parties or bridal showers–some even at the rehearsal dinner. Depending on the timing, you want to make sure you’re giving the jewelry early enough so that they know not to purchase their own. Most bridesmaids’ dresses are ordered 8-12 weeks in advance. Once you know what the dress will be like, you can choose the appropriate jewelry.

Should my maid of honor get something special?

If she’s the one planning your shower and going above and beyond to help with all your wedding day details, then yes, it’s appropriate to give her something extra. If, for example, you’re giving your bridesmaids a necklace, you might want to add a pair of earrings for your maid or matron of honor (Moon River Pearls gives free pearl studs with every $150 purchase) or perhaps throw in a manicure/pedicure gift certificate.

Help! My bridesmaid/maid of honor has tattoos/dreadlocks/gauges.

Celebrate it! Just as you have your unique style, your bridesmaid has hers. It’s more that she’s standing up there with you, lending support, rather than what she looks like. But if you absolutely can’t tolerate the buzz her full back dragon tattoo will generate, don’t choose a backless dress for her. Similarly, you can ask her to cover her tattoos with makeup; surely she’s come across less-than-positive reactions to her tats before. As for dreadlocks? Not much you can do except give her too many champagne cocktails at your bachelorette party and shave her while she’s passed out. Kidding. Just ask her to keep them neat. Ear gauges? Rather than take out the gauges and leave those big, floppy holes, do a Google search. We’ve found delicate silver and CZ gauges that are perfect for a wedding.

FLOWER GIRLS

What style of jewelry is appropriate for a little girl?

With their traditional and demure reputation, we love pearl jewelry for flower girls! Choose a tin cup style, pearl bracelet, or dainty earrings if she has pierced ears. You can sweeten the formal look of pearls by giving her pink pearls.

What size should I choose?

Most children’s necklaces are 12-14 inches and fit the average girl just fine. When in doubt, look for necklaces that have extenders–typically a one-inch chain that allows for an adjustable fit. Bracelets for girls are sized at 5 or 6 inches; these should easily fit most girls and even some small-wristed teens.

What jewelry is appropriate for a junior bridesmaid?

Any jewelry that is similar to the rest of the bridal party’s style. Just make sure if she’s small to size it down, perhaps by buying something from a children’s jewelry line, or buying jewelry that has an extender. Or consider earrings. They fit everyone!

How to Choose and Wear The Right Jewelry

Posted by on Monday, November 1, 2010. Leave a Comment

With the various trips to different jewelry stores hunting for that perfect piece of jewelry can be taxing. But it doesn’t have to be, if you know what you are looking for. Choosing which fine jewelry to wear is no different than choosing an outfit. The key is to trust your taste and stick to your personal fashion style. For example if you’re an animal lover you can choose from numerous animal jewelry available in the market, from bird jewelry, cat jewelry, to dog jewelry, dolphin jewelry and even horse jewelry.

Although once in a while, it never hurts to step out of the box and try something unconventional like body jewelry or man jewelry, just to add spice. But what’s important is that the jewelry should match with the outfit you are wearing. Jewelry is the finishing touch on your total look that will emphasize your fashion.

The first step is to determine what you want them to do. Would you like it to be the center of attention or just to compliment you? Another factor to consider is the occasion you’ll be wearing it to. It’s vital to make be sure that it is fitting for the event. For instance a sexy oversized choker might be perfect for a night on the town but not for the boardroom.

Unlike in clothes, there is no need to stick with just one designer even though most people have a favorite designer. In truth there’s no need to fill your jewelry box with designer pieces, there are a lot of wonderful pieces that are unsigned but will surely make a fashion statement. Try scrambling through your jewelry box, take out your antique jewelry, estate jewelry, gold jewelry, diamond jewelry as well as your fashion jewelry and body jewelry. Mixing and matching your old pieces will give it character and a little zest.

The prize of the piece should also be considered. Contrary to what most people believe, jewelries do not have to be diamond jewelry, gold jewelry or precious heirlooms like antique jewelry, estate jewelry, Hawaiian jewelry or Italian jewelry in order to be considered fine pieces. Costume Jewelry, both signed and unsigned, is an example of a fine jewelry and yet it is affordable. A lot of jewelry store sells costume jewelry at a low price and some of them go way back to 1920s. What’s great about them is that you can use it, get tired of it, put it away and still get your money’s worth.

The last and perhaps the most crucial factor to be considered is the piece’s size and shape. In this case, bigger doesn’t necessarily mean its better. Going for a bigger piece when your face is small may actually detract rather than attract. It would be good to experiment and find out what looks best on you.

Choices in jewelries are endless – woman or man jewelry, Italian jewelry or Hawaiian jewelry, fashion jewelry or designer animal jewelries such as bird jewelry, cat jewelry, dog jewelry, dolphin jewelry, or horse jewelry. No matter what your tastes are, your likes and dislikes, you will be able to enhance your look and make a fashion statement little effort in choosing the perfect piece to complement your outfit.

Jewelry Care: Caring for, Cleaning, and Storing Your Precious Jewelry

Posted by on Saturday, October 30, 2010. Leave a Comment

Your jewelry is precious. Whether it holds monetary or sentimental value, or both, your jewelry is special. So how do you keep your jewelry looking it’s best? Most people believe that a certain amount of wear and tear is to be expected. Not so. There are a few simple steps you can take to ensure that your precious jewelry is in as perfect condition as the day you bought it.

When not to wear your jewelry:

One of the best ways to keep your jewelry looking good is knowing when not to wear it. Many people never take their jewelry off, for sentimental reasons. But the fact is that there are many routine activities that may damage, or even destroy, your precious jewelry. Examples of these activities include:

Gardening: Aside from getting your jewelry dirty, gardening is one of the easiest ways to chip or lose precious stones, as well as scratch gold or platinum jewelry. Remember that gold is an extremely soft metal, and platinum, while about twice as strong as gold, is still easily scratched.

Household cleaning: You should never wear your jewelry while doing household cleaning! Many common cleaning solutions contain chemicals that may damage or discolor precious gems or metals. Also, while doing housework, you are bound to rub your jewelry against abrasive materials. When it comes to gold even dust can be abrasive enough to do damage.

Swimming: The chlorine in swimming pools can do extensive damage to your jewelry. Chlorine can pit and discolor gold, as well as take the polish off of precious gems. Chlorine will also do damage to settings, causing gems to come loose, and greatly increasing the risk of losing them.

Sleeping: Yes sleeping! While sleeping you will unconsciously brush your jewelry against the sheets. The dust on your sheets, or the sheets themselves, acts as a fine abrasive, which, over time, will wear down the settings of your rings. If you must wear you ring to bed, you should turn the ring so that the gem is facing the palm of your hand. This way it is less likely to come in contact with abrasive materials.

You should also avoid extreme temperature changes. For example: If you are wearing a diamond ring in a hot tub (which you should not do in the first place) and you then decide to jump into a cold pool, your diamond may very well crack, or even shatter!

When deciding whether or not to wear your jewelry you should just use common sense. If you think that you might be doing something rough, or if you think you might come into contact with chemicals or abrasives, it’s best to simply not wear your jewelry. Better safe than sorry.

Cleaning your jewelry:

Cleaning your jewelry is really pretty simple. The best way to clean your jewelry is by soaking it in warm water with a mild liquid detergent or soap. After letting your jewelry soak for three or four minutes rinse it off under running water (make sure the drain is closed), and then pat it dry with a soft lint free cloth or paper towel. You should clean your jewelry often to avoid having to take it to a jeweler for costly and harmful cleaning methods.

There are many home remedies and old wives tales dealing with how to clean jewelry. Most of these not only do not work, but also can be extremely harmful to your jewelry. Some examples of these include:

Toothpaste: One of the most common home remedies for cleaning jewelry is using toothpaste. You should absolutely never use toothpaste to clean your jewelry! Toothpaste is abrasive. While this is a good thing for cleaning plaque off your teeth, it will scratch gold and softer gems.

Boiling water: Many people believe that boiling jewelry in water is a good way to clean it. In fact boiling is one of the easiest ways to destroy fine jewelry. Boiling your jewelry can crack or discolor gemstones, even diamonds.

Ammonia: Ammonia is okay to use on diamonds, rubies, and sapphires, but will damage other gemstones. Ammonia should only be used on unfilled diamonds. Fracture filled diamonds should never be cleaned in acidic solutions or ammonia.

Professional polishing solutions: Professional polishing solutions have a mild abrasive in them. This abrasive will make your gold jewelry shine, but it will also scratch the gold.

Cleaning your jewelry often will make it sparkle and shine. Diamonds especially should be cleaned regularly, as they naturally attract grease. A clean flawed diamond can look ten times better than a dirty flawless one.

Storing your jewelry:

Proper storage is the most important factor in keeping your jewelry in good condition. Remember that gold and platinum are soft materials, and that diamonds are one of the hardest substances known to man. If you store your jewelry together your diamonds, rubies, and sapphires will scratch your precious metals, as well as chip other, softer gems, such as emeralds. You should always store your jewelry pieces separately. Many people like to store their jewelry in lock boxes, or at home, in the freezer. These are both poor choices for jewelry storage. The dry atmosphere of a lock box can damage your jewelry, while the extreme cold of a freezer can crack or shatter precious gemstones. The best place to store your precious jewelry is in a jewelry box with many separate compartments. Most jewelry boxes are lined with soft, un-abrasive materials, which will not scratch your jewelry. A good jewelry box will come with many compartments, which not only showcase your jewelry beautifully, but also protect your jewelry from scratching and chipping. Jewelry boxes are also beautiful in and of themselves. A quality jewelry box is usually handmade of beautiful hard wood, and cunningly contrived to showcase your jewelry in a stunning fashion. When storing your jewelry there is no substitute for a quality jewelry box. Here is a go page to view different styles available in a jewelry box.

Where is the best place to purchase a jewelry box:

To get an idea of the different styles and prices that are available in a jewelry box it is more convenient to view them online before shopping around at local retail stores.

Retail stores and jewelers will sometimes carry a small selection of jewelry boxes, but you are more apt to find a greater selection online. Just type “jewelry box” into an Internet search engine like Google or Yahoo and you will find several reliable websites that specialize in jewelry boxes.

The cost of a jewelry box is dependant upon many variables. In solid hardwood, a jewelry box should cost about $100 to $300 depending on size, but fancy jewelry boxes can cost much more.

Let your jewelry shine:

Would you like your jewelry to look more stunning than ever? Would you like your jewelry to gain compliments every time you wear it? Caring for your jewelry is well worth your time. Not only will proper care and storage extend the life of your jewelry, it will also make your jewelry sparkle and shine like never before.

Custom Design Jewelry – Is It The Right Choice?

Posted by on Friday, October 29, 2010. Leave a Comment

Custom design jewelry… the idea congers up many strange thoughts. We are finding out that many people don’t understand the process and how easy it can be to do. Custom design has many misunderstandings. The first one is custom design jewelry is always very expensive. No, this is simply not true. Custom design jewelry can be very affordable. We have done Custom designs that have saved our clients thousands of dollars over designer jewelry.

To help over come many of the misunderstandings I am using a question — answer style of article. This means I will not answer all your question so please call or come in to get a better understanding of custom design jewelry. You can see many of the examples of designs and waxes and final jewelry pieces. The process is very fun and enjoyable. Let’s start the discussion.

Do I have to be a jewelry designer to have a ring custom designed?

NO. We are the expert jewelry designers. You are the expert in what you like. Putting these two experts together is the fun part.

I don’t know what I want?

Don’t worry, we have a system to discover what you want. It is a simple way to find out what you like and then put it together just for you. Jewelry has many small parts but most people just see the whole thing. Like a car, it looks the way it looks the way it looks, but break it apart and then you see what it is. For example, the headlight shape and position, the size and angle of the windshield, the front fenders and even down to the door handles and windshield wipers all have an impact on the car’s look. Now if you could put all the parts together from the different cars you like, it would look great to you. They can’t build a car just for you, but we can build a ring just for you.

What style should I choose?

Jewelry style can give people a great sense of dread or be totally irrelative. What is in fashion? What are the trend setters wearing? These are the heart and soul of many people and jewelry stores. Some jewelry stores only sell what is currently in style and if you don’t like it that’s tough. Jewelry fashion changes every season just like clothes do. What’s hot now will not be next season. Some trends are long like the white gold and platinum look which has been going on for over seven years now. The current design look with every surface of the ring left enhanced looks great when done right. When done wrong looks too busy, baroque, or garish. A couple of seasons ago the opposite look was in vogue (literally also), a simple clean bright finish geometric shape ring designs. Yes, we keep up with the fashions of the day. To our clients who want the cutting edge fashion statement, we can help you design a very in vogue ring.

Jewelry styles does last longer then a hemline. We do many redesigns because a certain style was predominate in the jewelry stores when they brought their ring, but they were not ever very happy with it. Custom design, I feel, is the best way to achieve a personal preference in jewelry regardless of the current trends. If you want a five stone diamond ring and not a three stone ring, it can be done. If you want a complicated top of ring but not the sides, it can be done. If you want diamonds everywhere, down the shank, on the sides, on the prongs, and even inside (yes we have set diamonds inside) it can be done. Jewelry and wedding rings in particular are heirloom quality and can last decades and even centuries. Many styles will come and go and even come back again in the lifetime of a well designed ring. Jewelry design for a personal taste will be enjoyed for many years or at least until the person’s taste changes, then its redesign time.

Jewelry style has another aspect. Jewelry as art… . Some jewelry designs can only be described as art. If you have a piece of jewelry art in mind and need a way to express it, we can help. With the computer jewelry design system we can make your vision become a reality. This is one of those times when technology can fulfill the desire deep within you. If you want a piece of jewelry art, our designs are more then willing to create a masterpiece for you.

Why do we need to make a wax model?

The process of making jewelry involves a wax model. The jewelry is designed in wax, then the wax is put into a mold of plaster. The plaster mold is heated and the wax melts out and makes room for the gold or other metal to be pored into the void. Then the plaster is broken away and the jewelry is made. This operation is called the lost wax jewelry process.

Is custom design better then mass-produced jewelry?

Generally speaking it is better. At Arden Jewelers we make sure it is. The way we make the custom design jewelry, we know it is better. We have gemologists and trained jewelry designers along with bench jewelers all collaborating to design the best jewelry. Our jewelry designs are made to last. We use more pure noble metal then mass-produced jewelry. We design into the piece strong gem setting features. We think about years of use not just the display in our designs.

Can I make platinum custom design jewelry?

Yes, you can have the jewelry made in platinum, or14 karat gold or even sterling silver. We can make your jewelry in many different types of gold like 9, 10 14, 18, 22, 24 karat gold. The gold can be white or yellow or even red or green. We can make two tone white and yellow or red and white. For that matter, if you want we can put all four colors of gold in your design. If you want an unusual karat of gold like 19, we can do that as well. We even have at least three different qualities of white gold to choose from. If you are allergic to some types of gold we can work with you to find one you are not allergic to.

Custom design sounds very complicated?

Yes, it is to us, but not you. We make your part very easy. We just ask questions about what you want and we know what it takes to make that happen. If you don’t like white gold that looks yellowish, we know how to fix that. If you don’t want the ring to slide around, we can fix that. Custom design is about the jewelry you like and we work out the details to make your dreams come true.
